4 vs. 4 + 4: Setting up shots on goal

Drill Description

  • The players are divided into three teams of four. Teams A and B play 4 vs. 4 in a 25 x 35-yard field on two goals with goalkeepers. The players on Team C take positions in one half of the field: one on each sideline and to on the endline on both sides of Goal 2.
  • Each extra player moves freely along his/her assigned line as the situation requires.
  • Teams A and B play 4 vs. 4. Team A attacks Goal 1, while Team B attacks Goal 2 with the help of all the wall players, who are limited to two touches.
  • Team B may score only on a direct shot set up by one of the wall players.
  • After a four-minute round and an active rest period, one of the teams on the field trades places with the extra team for the next round.
  • Repeat this sequence until each team has played all three variations.

Coaching Tips

  • All wall players (or only the two wall players beside the goal) are allowed only one touch.
  • All wall players may only set up a shot for the player from whom he received the ball.
  • After a four-minute round and active rest period, Teams A and B switch halves and roles. Which team scores more goals? After the second round, one of the teams on the field trades places with the extra team and a new two-round sequence begins.
