Attack Training

Building the attack drills: midfield assistance

Drill Description

  • The field is slightly larger than a regular half.
  • The field is divided into three zones with cones.
  • Two teams of seven, distributed as follows: 4 versus 4 in the end zone in front of Goal 1 and 3 versus 3 in the other end zone.
  • Two neutral players are in the middle zone.
  • When the defenders win the ball, they must first pass to the neutral players. These players pass into the other end zone and follow the ball across the line to join the attack, creating a 6 versus 4 or 5 versus 3. If the attackers lose the ball, both neutral players return immediately to the middle zone.

Coaching Tips

  • When a defender passes to a neutral player, he follows his pass into the middle zone, and the neutral player passes directly back to him. These two players then join the attack in the other end zone.
  • There is only one neutral player.
