Taking advantage of throw-ins

Focus on: Distance and Accuracy

2. Setup

  • Using cones, mark out throwing lines every five yards.
  • Players start behind a starting line. Each one has a ball.

Throw-in Competition

  • Players try to throw the ball as far as possible, using proper throw-in form with a running start.
  • The coach records each player's distance.
  • Illegal throw-ins do not count.
  • After five rounds, the player with the longest throw is named the "throw-in king."

Variations

  • Same as setup 1, but with a medicine ball.
  • Accuracy competition: The coach designates a zone (e.g. the zone between the 15- and 20-yard lines) in which the ball has to land. Who can score the most "hits?"
